The Ljubljana Pride Association has been co-creating the Pride Parade in Ljubljana since 2009 – a space of courage, visibility, and community. From a protest, it has over the years grown into an international cultural-political festival that today represents the central festival of LGBTIQ+ culture in Slovenia. The Ljubljana Pride Festival is vibrant, loud, and deeply felt – with a strong activist, socially critical, and political character.
Each year, the festival concludes with the Pride March, a protest march through the streets of Ljubljana. It is the moment when we occupy public space, raise our voices, and clearly express the kind of society we want. The march ends with the public presentation of the political demands of the LGBTIQ+ community, addressed to those who hold social power, institutions, and the broader public. The festival is a public manifestation of breaking the silence, resisting the pressure to push LGBTIQ+ people into the private sphere, and celebrating diverse lives, love, creativity, and community bonds. At its core are human rights, equal opportunities, and freedom of choice.
Cultural Program Throughout the Year
Pride Parade is not just one week of the year. Our cultural program lives throughout the year, as we collaborate with other cultural institutions, organizations, and initiatives that open and explore LGBTIQ+ themes. Together we create exhibitions, discussions, film screenings, performances, workshops, and other forms of cultural and social engagement that build spaces for dialogue, support, and empowerment.
Ljubljana Pride Festival – June
The heart of our work is the Ljubljana Pride Festival. Each June we organize a week-long festival that fills the city with the colors, voices, and stories of the community. It concludes with Pride Day – a full-day program featuring the Pride Village, the March through the streets of the capital, and a rich Cultural and Political program on the main stage at Congress Square.
The festival is not dedicated only to art and culture. It is also an activist, political, and professional platform where, through an annually chosen theme and slogan, we open discussions about issues that remain overlooked or unresolved. We speak about the challenges, inequalities, and systemic gaps faced by LGBTIQ+ people in Slovenia, the region, and beyond.
Independence and Space for Community Voices
The Ljubljana Pride Festival is non-commercial. We remain committed to activism, critical reflection and the community, which is why we are funded exclusively through public grants and donations. This allows us to maintain social and political independence and freedom in shaping our program.
Our core mission is to provide space, a stage and a microphone for LGBTIQ+ artists, activists, researchers and other voices of the community. The Ljubljana Pride Festival is a space of visibility, solidarity, and resistance – and an invitation to join the collective struggle for a more just, open, and inclusive society.
