SUMMARY:Stand up for our intersex children
DESCRIPTION:Do all “lives matter” equally? Are Children’s Rights really respected for every child? What about the 1\,7% of children that are born with natural differences in their sex characteristics\, so they can’t be easily classified as males or females? What kind of life do they usually have? Why it is so urgent to change the medical protocol for these children? And how could we all advocate for the sake and the rights of these intersex children?\n\n\n\n\n\nOctober 26 marks Intersex Awareness Day\, which aims to highlight human rights issues faced by intersex individuals. Rinio Simeonidou\, an advocate for intersex rights and a proud parent of an awesome intersex kid that paves her activistic path\, will join us via video call next Tuesday October 29.\nWith ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world. \nWe know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and walking down any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Let's tackle Hate Speech!
DESCRIPTION:Workshop on tackling Hate Speech for those working with youth. \nWe kindly ask you to apply HERE \nThe culture of hate has crept deep into every pore of society\, school and youth settings are no exception. As youth teachers\, workers\, youth leaders\, trainers\, activists\, and experts\, we have not only the power\, but also the responsibility to respond to hate speech when it happens in a group of young people. All these “jokes” and comments where the young person “is just repeating what they learned at home” and/or “doesn’t mean it seriously” perpetuate social inequalities stemming from the systems of oppression. \nQuite often\, though\, we are unable to invest the time to respond to hate\, either because we are burdened with the planned outcomes of the activities\, or because we simply do not know how to. This workshop strives to tackle issues of recognising\, managing and transforming hate speech and/or behavior. We will share and explore the possibilities of overcoming hate speech via the use of transformative practices. It introduces practices that aim not only to react to hate speech that only causes the person to abstain from using the hate speech in that particular environment\, but to start a process of transformation in order to overcome the hate itself. \nThe workshop is open to everyone who works with young people. \nWe kindly ask you to apply HERE \n(Event will be held in Slovenian language) \nThe workshop will be implemented by the programme Erasmus+ Youth in action Programme. It’s dissemination workshop in project Hate Speech Transformation in Youth Work.

SUMMARY:Support Person - Assistance in emotional or mental distress
DESCRIPTION:October 10 marks World Mental Health Day\, which aims to raise awareness and destigmatize mental health issues. When it comes to supporting people in emotional or mental distress\, we often forget how crucial the role of communities and support persons is for people in need. The LGBT community is one of the most vulnerable social groups when it comes to mental health\, however\, we are still lacking awareness and knowledge on prevention and appropriate support systems that we can provide for each other as a community. \nIn this workshop we will address the concept of a support person and explore ways of supporting and assisting people in emotional or mental distress. How to approach a friend you care about\, how to offer support to someone who is struggling with depression\, anxiety or panic attacks? Which words to choose\, how to offer help? How to ensure the personal integrity of a person in need\, how to empower them? Answers to all questions above (and any other) will be sought during the workshop. Welcome all who are interested in the topic. And please invite anyone else you think could benefit from the event. ? \nThe workshop will be led by Vesna Štefanec\, a social pedagogue who has been working on topics related to the LGBT community and counseling for LGBT people for almost a decade. After the workshop\, she will be available for brief personal talks and / or counseling arrangements. \nWith ‘Pride Connects’\, we strive to connect the local LGBTIQ+ youth\, activists\, and all those interested in the political side of Pride(s) and LGBTIQ+ Human Rights Struggles in Slovenia and across the world. \nWe know that being an openly LGBTIQ+ person and walking down any public space is a political act\, and we know it is not easy – so we want to create a safe(r) space for all LGBTIQ+ people and a place of empowerment.

SUMMARY:Combating racism: How to be a good ally
DESCRIPTION:We often know when something is not right but we don’t always know what to do about it\, when it comes to racism we might feel we don’t understand everything and we are not sure what is the best thing to do. In this workshop we will look at understanding racism and its impact on people and also what we can do about it and how we can step in and stand up against it. \nThe workshop will be facilitated by Amel Yacef\, originally from Algeria\, who has been working in the youth and community sector in Ireland for almost 20 years. She is a Muslim feminist and anti-racist who believes in transformative justice and its values. \nThe event will be held in English. \nThis event is organised with the financial support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission\, as Amel is currently engaged in a job shadowing project at Ljubljana Pride. SUMMARY:Cultural Appropriation - Public Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Ljubljana Pride is proud to invite you to a public discussion on cultural appropriation\, facilitated by a dear friend and colleague Amel Yacef\, originally from Algeria\, who has been working in the youth and community sector in Ireland for almost 20 years. She is a Muslim feminist and anti-racist who believes in transformative justice and its values\, and together with us\, she will take us through an exploration of the concept of cultural appropriation. \n– On whose terms do we celebrate and honour the cultures of others?\n– What is this line we cross when appropriating someone else’s culture?\n– How can we identify and challenge racism when it takes the form of cultural practice? \nIf you are interested to talk through these questions\, then join us on Thursday\, 3rd October in Ljubljana Pride office. \nThe event will be held in English. \nThis event is organised with the financial support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission\, as Amel is currently engaged in a job shadowing project at Ljubljana Pride. SUMMARY:Respect for Human Rights of Intersex Persons
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to an interactive lecture Respect for Human Rights of Intersex Persons with Executive Director of OII Europe Dan Christian Ghattas\, PhD\, to be held on Monday\, September 30 2019 from 2 pm until 4 pm at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana\, Poljanski nasip 2\, Ljubljana (Seminar 4) \nThe interactive lecture will be held in English. \nBodily autonomy – making one’s own decisions about one’s body and what happens to it – is a fundamental human right\, included in several human rights instruments around the World. Based on their sex characteristics for intersex persons the right to bodily autonomy is regularly and coarsely violated based\, also in Slovenia. These violations are increasingly documented\, and today\, intersex persons are internationally recognized as victims of harmful medical practices and other human rights violations. \nSince 2009\, the United Nations Treaty Bodies have called on Member states to stop human rights violations against intersex persons 49 times. The Council of Europe Member States have received 26 UN Treaty Bodies recommendations\, 15 of these in the last two years. Moreover\, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and European Parliament have adopted two resolutions\, which\, among others\, call to the legal prohibition of unnecessary surgical and other procedures performed on intersex children without their informed consent and with the aim of “normalising” the appearance of their sex characteristics. \nPlease apply by September 26 2019.\nAPPLY HERE\nFor more information write to info@legebitra.si \nDan Christian Ghattas\, PhD\, is the Executive Director of Organisation Intersex International Europe (OII Europe). He started advocating for intersex human rights in Europe in 2009\, and has since provided expertise to governments\, EU and Council of Europe and UN Treaty Bodies. He was one of the initiators of the 1st International Intersex Forum (2011) and is a co-founder and former co-chair of OII Europe. In 2013\, he compiled the first empirical (pre-)study on the life situations of intersex individuals worldwide\, Human Rights Between the Sexes\, covering 12 countries and most continents. In 2016\, he authored the ILGA-Europe/OII Europe Intersex Toolkit Standing up for intersex human rights – How can you help? and in 2019 the ILGA-Europe/OII Europe legal toolkit Protecting intersex people in Europe. A toolkit for law and policy makers. With digital appendix and checklist. SUMMARY:Movie night: Whip it and talk with Roller Derby Ljubljana
DESCRIPTION:After the bout during Pride Festival in June\, we are joining forces with Roller Derby Ljubljana once again and watching the movie Whip It. \nWhip It (2009) is a comedy-drama about a girl that doesn’t feel understood in her small town. All of a sudden she finds out about roller derby – a women’s* contact sport on quad skates\, which is often associated with the LGBTIQ+ community. She joins a team and her life changed completely since she finally finds people like her and feels accepted. The movie is fun even though it doesn’t show a totally realistic representation of the sport and the LGBTIQ+ themes are only in the subtext. \nAfter the movie\, there will be time to hang out and talk to the members of Roller Derby Ljubljana about the movie\, roller derby\, the Slovenian team and anything you might be interested to find out.

SUMMARY:Trening pripovedovalstva za LGBTIQ+ mlade
DESCRIPTION:PRIJAVI SE TUKAJ\nSi mlada LGBTIQ+ oseba\, ki si želi deliti svojo zgodbo z drugimi? \nTrening bo potekal v slovenščini in angleščini. SUMMARY:Storytelling training for LGBTIQ+ youth
DESCRIPTION:APPLY HERE\nAre you a young LGBTIQ+ person that wants to share their story? Do you want to connect with your audience\, inspire and empower them? Do you want to break stereotypes and prejudices that people have about the LGBTIQ+ community? \nAt Ljubljana Pride\, we have realized through experience that nothing makes people more interested in a new topic than hearing about it from personal experience. A personal story allows them to connect with someone and put themselves in their shoes. We have all heard of that person who was homophobic\, biphobic\, transphobic until they actually met an LGBTIQ+ person\, recognized the person’s humanity and were forced to reconsider their prejudices. \nStorytelling allows us to do just that\, and to open diverse new topics in a way that is accessible to our audience and allows them to be touched by our story. \nJoin us at our 4-day training to learn about storytelling techniques and explore with us the diverse realities of our lives as young LGBTIQ+ people. We will delve into different topics that concern us\, such as bullying\, family rejection\, and discrimination based on gender/sexuality\, but also exploring our identities\, coming out\, community\, working and volunteering for LGBTIQ+ organizations\, or anything else you want to share. Participants will gain the tools and competencies to work through their experiences\, put them into words\, and feel empowered to share them with others. \nWe will become familiar with different storytelling techniques and try them out in a safe environment among our peers. In the months after the training\, the participants will have the opportunity to share their stories during workshops and other events organized by Ljubljana Pride. \nThe training will be facilitated by a young team of Ljubljana Pride’s trainers and volunteers who have spent the last few months learning about the topic and preparing for the training. For 4 days\, we will escape to CŠOD Rak in the beautiful Rakov Škocjan\, where we will be able to spend our free moments enjoying nature. There will be a “safe person” present at the training\, who will be always available to offer support to anyone who needs it. \nThe training will be in English and Slovene. In the case of too many applications\, priority in the selection process will be given to people who speak Slovene. \nUnfortunately\, the location is not wheelchair accessible. \nWe consider anyone below 30 years of age to be a young person\, but exceptions are also possible. \nApply by filling out the application form HERE\nApplications are open until July 31st. \nAttending the training is free of charge\, but we are collecting a 20 € deposit that will be returned to you after the training. You can transfer it to Društvo Parada ponosa\, IBAN: SI56 6100 0001 2119 430\, Delavska hranilnica\, SWIFT/BIC: HDELSI22 or bring it in person to our office at Dunajska 10 (please write to us in advance to make sure someone is in the office when you come). If this presents an obstacle for anyone\, please write to us and we will find a different solution. \nWe are available for any questions at info@ljubljanapride.org or neja@ljubljanapride.org.

SUMMARY:Pride Party
DESCRIPTION:DEENA ABDELWAHED \nAfter starting out in Tunisia as part of the World Full of Bass collective\, Deena went on to Toulouse to play with the Arabstazy collective. She met the InFiné team in 2016\, quickly securing a range of tour dates from Concrete – of which she is still a resident – to Boiler Room\, Villette Sonique\, Wet for Me\, CTM (“Hail Mother Internet“)\, Room for Resistance\, Saüle (Berghain)\, and Rewire Festival. Deena undoubtedly put Tunisia on the electronic music map\, but it would be off-topic to categorize her on the basis of her origins alone: Deena is the archetype of a globalized generation of internet natives for whom borders are an outdated concept. This self-taught musician also didn’t wait to have her knowledge delivered to her on a silver platter. \nWhat Deena wants is to discover the sound of the future\, and regardless of geographic origins\, all are welcome to the mixing board. Her DJ sets throw open the doors of her research laboratory\, on the razor’s edge of club music and avant-garde\, where only as-yet-unheard rhythms on the outer reaches of sub-cultures are allowed to come and play. The foundation for this future that she is building is a wake-up call – an alarm\, even – tuned to break the pathological indifference ravaging our jaded times: novelty and audacity are required to get even a shot at a place in Deena’s transgender\, hybrid playlists. A human and artistic sincerity that is without fail feeds her work as a composer\, which should be distinguished from her DJing endeavours. Because while the DJ draws from all that the world has to offer\, it is the inner landscapes that her composer alter-ego explores. Traces of the history from which Deena formed herself as an artist and a person are thus uncovered: a self-construction made of frustrations and constraints\, borne of retrograde mindsets which are not the prerogative of either the East or the West\, she tirelessly strives to expose and break down. \nHer debut album\, «Khonnar»\, released in November 2018\, synthesizes a new tipping point between North and South\, a post-revolution response from a connected generation that is in the process of emancipation; the decline in the influence of the West\, but also of the patriarchy\, a new decolonization… Deena is the figurehead of a new world order of musical creation. «Khonnar» is the manifesto of a generation that does not seek to please or to conform\, but which pushes our backs to the wall\, and abruptly takes back control of its identity\, with all the inherent losses and chaos.

SUMMARY:Paradni žur
DESCRIPTION:DEENA ABDELWAHED \nDeena je začela svojo glasbeno kariero kot del kolektiva World Full of Bass v Tunisu ter jo nadaljevala v kolektivu Arabsazy.

SUMMARY:Perera Elsewhere (UK/DE)\, Pride x Selekcija I.
DESCRIPTION:Sasha Perera\, aka Perera Elsewhere\, always has one ear tilted toward the future. As the vocalist in the Berlin trio\, Jahcoozi\, Perera and her bandmates made forward-thinking bass music before the onset of polyglot dance music boom of the last decade. She describes the music on her latest solo album\, All Of This\, as “doom folk\,” teeming with dark pop\, trip-hop\, and R&B. Among other things\, she sings about hopeful escapism (“Tomorrow South”) and the increasingly confounding idea that identity and corporate language—self-branding\, as it were—are becoming one in the same (“All Of This”). Perera’s palette is global\, but not just as a producer and artist—she’s an accomplished DJ and instructor\, as well. \nFrom the grit of dark club to the absorption of indigenous and extra-terrestrial sounds\, Perera melds these inspirations into her very own semi-abstract\, dystopian\, pop-tinged bliss\, creating her own signature sound and intricately-crafted backdrop for her songs. \nWhile incorporating organic elements that seamlessly co-exist with electronic elements\, she has carefully reserved space for her haunting-yet-soothing vocal passes : Eerie ambient meets psychedelic\, avant R&B and experimental folk that addresses issues such as gated communities\, over-consumption\, the self-obsessive ego\, and the constant background noise and echo chamber of the world in which we live.

SUMMARY:Cocaine piss (Hypertension Records)
DESCRIPTION:Both Cocaine Piss’s music and their name carry associations of ugliness\, provocativeness\, and lewdness; but the message of this quartet from Belgium cuts as deep as their singer’s voice. Their songs are fast\, angry\, and mostly shy of two minutes long. The band members identify as queer\, support gender equality\, and fight against sexism and elitism both in the punk scene as well as the greater society. Steve Albini\, a fan of theirs\, won the 2018 World Series of Poker wearing their T-shirt (maybe it was a lucky shirt\, who knows?). The band has recorded two albums in their Chicago studio: The Dancer (2016) and Passionate and Tragic (April 2018). Get ready for a cacophony of Dead Kennedys\, Bikini Kill\, and Melt Banana – or in other words\, get ready for a high voltage mixture of noise\, punk\, glitter\, and sweat.

SUMMARY:Stigma of Living with HIV
DESCRIPTION:U=U campaign presentation \nThe members of ŠKUC Magnus will present the U=U campaign. We welcome everyone who wants to learn more about the complex stigma HIV-positive people face from HIV-positive individuals themselves. People living with HIV in Slovenia often still publically hide their status out of fear of discrimination. \nThe stigma against HIV-positive LGBTIQ+ individuals also affects other marginalised groups\, such as sex workers\, migrants\, and intravenous drug users. \nHIV-positive individuals also often encounter discrimination from healthcare providers when trying to access help within the public healthcare system due to the lack of knowledge about HIV and the proper treatment for HIV-positive people. The campaign aims to address this informational vacuum (within the LGBTIQ+ community) and empower individuals with information about safer sex\, especially for younger members of the LGBTIQ+ population. The main goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about the newest medical information about the topic amongst the target population. \nLiving with HIV in Slovenia \nStigma and discrimination are some of the main barriers for an effective response to the epidemic of HIV. Oftentimes people with HIV also face discrimination based on other personal circumstances\, such as sexual orientation\, gender\, race\, or poverty\, and this only makes the experience worse. People who live with HIV can encounter stigmatization and discrimination in different situations\, but the most problematic is that which they experience in health care settings. Due to the state of the health system\, discrimination by healthcare professionals can cause serious consequences for people living with HIV. \nMitja Ćosić and Sebastjan Sitar from the association Legebitra will tell us more about the situation in Slovenia and activities in this field.

SUMMARY:Anti-racism for Activists
DESCRIPTION:Various expressions of racism are very common in Slovenian politics\, the public sphere\, media\, everyday interactions\, and public posts. Tackling racism in Slovenia is very hard because our society is distinctly white and religiously homogeneous\, and it sees itself as a society that has not been influenced by colonialism. Racism is deep in every pore of our society and our way of thinking. \nTherefore\, we have prepared a training workshop for activists and representatives of NGOs together with a European expert and a person who herself faces racism. Together we will dig into and explore anti-racist strategies and practice for NGOs that operate in mostly homogenous\, white environments. \nSarah Chander is the Senior Advocacy Officer at the European Network Against Racism (ENAR)\, the only pan-European network of grassroot anti-racist organisations. Sarah works to advocate for laws\, policies\, movements\, and practices toward racial equality. Sarah is passionate about genuine and unapologetic anti-racist\, feminist politics which are fundamentally based on the elimination of all forms of inequality in society. Sarah’s areas of work include equality data collection\, hate crimes and speech\, diversity and employment\, ethnic profiling\, and intersectionality. She has previously worked on employment and education policy for the UK government\, as well as activism for the end of immigration detention.

SUMMARY:(Overcoming) The Culture of Hate
DESCRIPTION:This public discussion with guests will focus on manifestations of racism and other forms of hate towards minority/marginalised groups\, with an emphasis on hate speech. We will address the interconnectedness of racism\, as well as other manifestations of oppression and marginalisation\, present in Slovene and European societies\, focusing on connecting racism with LGBTIQ+ and gender-based hate. We will reflect on both available and yet-to-be developed strategies of addressing the phenomena of the “Culture of Hate” in a local context. \nModerating: Simona Muršec\, Ljubljana Pride Association
