DESCRIPTION:Rainbow in the pocket is a new manual for affirmative strategies of addressing LGBTIQ+ topics through art. The manual is comprised of an extensive theoretical introduction and 8 animated workshops that address different aspects of LGBTIQ+ topics\, ranging from basic terminology to discrimination and violence. The authors and trainers will present the manual and demonstrate the workshops. The seminar will be conducted by Katja Sešek\, social worker; Laura Pihlar\, teacher of special and rehabilitative pedagogy; and Filip Vurnik\, an art pedagogue. The event is a part of the Erasmus+ strategic partnership\, Perform 2 Reform\, and will be partially in English and partially in Slovene.

DESCRIPTION:Sasha Perera\, aka Perera Elsewhere\, always has one ear tilted toward the future. As the vocalist in the Berlin trio\, Jahcoozi\, Perera and her bandmates made forward-thinking bass music before the onset of polyglot dance music boom of the last decade. She describes the music on her latest solo album\, All Of This\, as “doom folk\,” teeming with dark pop\, trip-hop\, and R&B. Among other things\, she sings about hopeful escapism (“Tomorrow South”) and the increasingly confounding idea that identity and corporate language—self-branding\, as it were—are becoming one in the same (“All Of This”). Perera’s palette is global\, but not just as a producer and artist—she’s an accomplished DJ and instructor\, as well. \nFrom the grit of dark club to the absorption of indigenous and extra-terrestrial sounds\, Perera melds these inspirations into her very own semi-abstract\, dystopian\, pop-tinged bliss\, creating her own signature sound and intricately-crafted backdrop for her songs. \nWhile incorporating organic elements that seamlessly co-exist with electronic elements\, she has carefully reserved space for her haunting-yet-soothing vocal passes : Eerie ambient meets psychedelic\, avant R&B and experimental folk that addresses issues such as gated communities\, over-consumption\, the self-obsessive ego\, and the constant background noise and echo chamber of the world in which we live.

SUMMARY:Cocaine piss (Hypertension Records)
DESCRIPTION:Both Cocaine Piss’s music and their name carry associations of ugliness\, provocativeness\, and lewdness; but the message of this quartet from Belgium cuts as deep as their singer’s voice. Their songs are fast\, angry\, and mostly shy of two minutes long. The band members identify as queer\, support gender equality\, and fight against sexism and elitism both in the punk scene as well as the greater society. Steve Albini\, a fan of theirs\, won the 2018 World Series of Poker wearing their T-shirt (maybe it was a lucky shirt\, who knows?). The band has recorded two albums in their Chicago studio: The Dancer (2016) and Passionate and Tragic (April 2018). Get ready for a cacophony of Dead Kennedys\, Bikini Kill\, and Melt Banana – or in other words\, get ready for a high voltage mixture of noise\, punk\, glitter\, and sweat.

SUMMARY:Stigma of Living with HIV
DESCRIPTION:U=U campaign presentation \nThe members of ŠKUC Magnus will present the U=U campaign. We welcome everyone who wants to learn more about the complex stigma HIV-positive people face from HIV-positive individuals themselves. People living with HIV in Slovenia often still publically hide their status out of fear of discrimination. \nThe stigma against HIV-positive LGBTIQ+ individuals also affects other marginalised groups\, such as sex workers\, migrants\, and intravenous drug users. \nHIV-positive individuals also often encounter discrimination from healthcare providers when trying to access help within the public healthcare system due to the lack of knowledge about HIV and the proper treatment for HIV-positive people. The campaign aims to address this informational vacuum (within the LGBTIQ+ community) and empower individuals with information about safer sex\, especially for younger members of the LGBTIQ+ population. The main goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about the newest medical information about the topic amongst the target population. \nLiving with HIV in Slovenia \nStigma and discrimination are some of the main barriers for an effective response to the epidemic of HIV. Oftentimes people with HIV also face discrimination based on other personal circumstances\, such as sexual orientation\, gender\, race\, or poverty\, and this only makes the experience worse. People who live with HIV can encounter stigmatization and discrimination in different situations\, but the most problematic is that which they experience in health care settings. Due to the state of the health system\, discrimination by healthcare professionals can cause serious consequences for people living with HIV.  \nMitja Ćosić and Sebastjan Sitar from the association Legebitra will tell us more about the situation in Slovenia and activities in this field.

SUMMARY:Anti-racism for Activists
DESCRIPTION:Various expressions of racism are very common in Slovenian politics\, the public sphere\, media\, everyday interactions\, and public posts. Tackling racism in Slovenia is very hard because our society is distinctly white and religiously homogeneous\, and it sees itself as a society that has not been influenced by colonialism. Racism is deep in every pore of our society and our way of thinking. \nTherefore\, we have prepared a training workshop for activists and representatives of NGOs together with a European expert and a person who herself faces racism. Together we will dig into and explore anti-racist strategies and practice for NGOs that operate in mostly homogenous\, white environments. \nSarah Chander is the Senior Advocacy Officer at the European Network Against Racism (ENAR)\, the only pan-European network of grassroot anti-racist organisations. Sarah works to advocate for laws\, policies\, movements\, and practices toward racial equality. Sarah is passionate about genuine and unapologetic anti-racist\, feminist politics which are fundamentally based on the elimination of all forms of inequality in society. Sarah’s areas of work include equality data collection\, hate crimes and speech\, diversity and employment\, ethnic profiling\, and intersectionality. She has previously worked on employment and education policy for the UK government\, as well as activism for the end of immigration detention.

DESCRIPTION:Most members of the LGBTIQ+ community are very familiar with the never-ending process of coming out. But does coming out as LGBTIQ+ or any other identity under the rainbow umbrella mean we are off the hook? Nope\, not if we are also fat. Navigating living our best queer fat lives in the heavily sexualized LGBTIQ+ scene is a big challenge and many struggles of fat queers remain invisible to the non-fat majority of the community. \nThe panel will discuss these experiences\, present examples of the ways in which diet culture can be both normative and harmful\, and offer reasons for not needing to cringe when you hear the word “fat”. SUMMARY:Trans women in the punk scene
DESCRIPTION:Between the estrogen and the hardcore tough guy  \n“Trans women in the punk scene – between hyper-masculine hardcore bands and toplessness\, the space often grows small for gender-nonconforming individuals\, even though the punk scene in particular should be the ideal space for free expression and diversity. As a trans woman that spent most of her life as a cis-man\, I was able to get unique impressions of the vacuum between unambiguously male structures\, pseudo-liberal venues\, and queer_feminist utopias. \nFrom having a topless live photo in the local newspaper at the age of 15\, to being a tour manager for queer_feminist artists\, there’s a lot of development to speak about: the divide between the fondness of hardcore punk and the longing for femininity\, mansplaining\, estrogen\, and the difficulty of creating a sustainable existence within an anti-capitalist scene. \nI want to provide insight into gender roles within the punk scene\, share skills\, and speak about the development of my professionally-operated political tour service. Together with you\, I would like to contextualize experiences into political structures and learn.” Maja Hagedorn \nMaja operates her international tour service\, “Queers to the front Booking”\, and puts on DIY shows in Germany. She identifies as trans female and uses the pronouns ‘she/her’.

SUMMARY:Overcoming the Culture of Humiliation
DESCRIPTION:By young people\, for young people\, this exhibition is an opportunity to see\, hear\, and feel the experiences of bullying\, as told by LGBTIQ+ people who have survived it. Over the course of six months\, with the technical support of artists and the pedagogical support of trainers (all from the LGBTIQ+ community!)\, these young people have worked together in order to reclaim their story and reach out to their peers in similar situations. \nPoetry\, illustration\, comics\, and intermedia art have never been so honest and intimate while addressing violence. The opening event will also feature testimonials about the process itself from the perspective of the people involved. \nThe exhibition features the art of Strmecki\, Nurlama Vidrih\, Rianne\, Verity Ritchie\, Kozole E.\, Lan Aidan Remec\, Tom Veber\, and Žan Safran. \nMentoring artists: Filip Vurnik\, Nika Lapkovski\, Ana Marija Garafol\, Verity Ritchie. \nPedagogical support: Vesna Štefanec\, Katja Štefanec\, Neja Berlič\, and Mateja Morić. \nThe mayor of Ljubljana\, Mr. Zoran Janković\, will address the audience during the exhibition opening.

DESCRIPTION:We invite you to a special Pride edition of Kavarniški večer (Cafe Evening) – a workshop on Mobilising for activism. We invite all activists – and all those interested in becoming one – to come and develop strategies for solidarity across different groups and struggles. With an informal educational approach and our intersectional glasses on\, the workshop aims at gathering people from different areas (LGBTIQ+ and others)\, and plant the seeds for intergroup cooperation and support. During the workshop we will try to answer two main questions: how can we mutually show up for each other as activists\, and how can different struggles create and maintain allyship? \nWe invite all activists from LGBTIQ+ fields and others to join us. This workshop is organised by Ljubljana Pride’s pool of trainers\, in cooperation with Kavarniški večeri. \nCafe Evenings (Kavarniški večeri) are organized by DIC\, Legebitra\, and Club Tiffany (ŠKUC – Cultural centre Q).

SUMMARY:Let's tackle Hate Speech!
DESCRIPTION:The culture of hate has crept deep into every pore of society\, and youth settings are no exception. As youth workers\, youth leaders\, trainers\, activists\, and experts\, we have not only the power\, but also the responsibility to respond to hate speech when it happens in a group of young people. All these “jokes” and comments where the young person “is just repeating what they learned at home” and/or “doesn’t mean it seriously” perpetuate social inequalities stemming from the systems of oppression. \nQuite often\, though\, we are unable to invest the time to respond to hate\, either because we are burdened with the planned outcomes of the activities\, or because we simply do not know how to. This workshop strives to tackle these issues by exploring the possibilities of overcoming hate speech via the use of transformative practices. It introduces practices that aim not only to react to hate speech that only causes the person to abstain from using the hate speech in that particular environment\, but to start a process of transformation in order to overcome the hate itself. \nThe workshop is open to everyone who works with young people.

SUMMARY:SOUFIANE ABABRI: CALL ME BY THEIR NAMES
DESCRIPTION:“The personal is political” is a phrase which pervades the work of the artist Soufiane Ababri. Ababri takes us between the sheets and invites us to read between the lines. Under the covers\, we uncover a world where bodies become agents of resistance. As many of the subjects appearing in his drawings are laid bare\, so too is the system in which they exist. In his seemingly naïve drawings\, he addresses themes such as homosexuality\, masculinity\, race\, violence\, hierarchies\, and the contentious relationships that exist between them. He draws inspiration from personal experience\, film\, pornography\, political activism\, sport\, and art history. \nIt is with great honour that we present the work of Soufiane Ababri in the context of Ljubljana Pride. Pride is first and foremost an act of resistance through presence\, challenging societal norms by the simple act of making oneself visible. This too is precisely the impetus of Ababri’s work. He is bringing visibility to what has in the history of representation long been hidden or exoticized. Speaking from a minority position – be it as a homosexual\, an immigrant\, or a brown-skinned individual – he reclaims the power to tell his own stories on his own terms. \nIn Ljubljana\, Soufiane Ababri will present an entirely new series of drawings commissioned by RAVNIKAR GALLERY SPACE. Over a period of a month spent in Ljubljana\, leading up to Ljubljana Pride\, he will observe and report on his experience of the city. It is only during this time that the subject matter of this new series will be revealed\, but what is sure to be gained is valuable insight during a moment in which we re-evaluate and celebrate all that makes us proud. \nSoufiane Ababri was born in 1985 in Morocco. He finished Ecole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier in 2010 and Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 2014. He’s held art exhibitions in several institutions in France and around the world\, including the solo exhibitions Memories of a solitary cruise\, The Pill Gallery\, Istanbul (2019); Here is a Strange and Bitter Crop\, SPACE Mare Street Gallery\, London (2018); Haunted Lives\, Galerie Praz-Delavallade\, Paris (2018); Oh please! Don’t be angry! It’s based on emotional facts\, Eternal Network\, Tours\, France (2017) and What’s the name of the nation\, Le Cube indépendant Art Room (2016)\, Rabat. His work is included in several private and public collections\, including the collection of MAC VAL and FRAC Pointou-Charentes. SUMMARY:Overcoming the Culture of Hate
DESCRIPTION:We will present this year’s political message and Ljubljana Pride Festival 2019 program to the public. \nSpeakers at the press conference: \n\n\nNina Perger\, Ljubljana Pride Association \n\n\nSimona Muršec\, Ljubljana Pride Association \n\n\nJure Kirbiš\, curator \n\n\nDuring this press conference\, we will launch the online map\, DecontRamination\, a tool for reporting hate speech in public spaces. \nIn 2013–2014 a local initiative and a project called DecontRamination (DekontRaminacija) was started in Ljubljana by Association Appareo. This initiative was built on the idea to track and monitor hateful graffiti present on the streets and in public places. A website was set up and people were asked to take photos of hateful graffiti and post them on an online map – thus reporting hate speech directly from the streets. Along with tracking hateful graffiti\, the project’s aim was to empower people with ideas for potential changes by keeping record of already-transformed\, “decontraminated” graffiti\, where a hateful message was simply neutralised or even transformed into a call for solidarity and emancipation. Ljubljana Pride Association is reviving this initiative and will be launching an upgraded version of the online map during the press conference.

After the course\, you will be able to further upgrade your new experiences during the Pride Parade Festival 2019\, which will take place from June 11 until June 22\, the Pride parade day. After this\, you will also be able to participate in other projects from Pride Parade Association\, including international ones.\n\nDuring the Pride festival\, the Photo Team will take care of the visual documentation of events\, the production of photographs for media publishing and taking photographs of all events.\n\nThe course will be held for three consecutive weeks: 5.5\, 12.5 and 19.5. and on Thursday\, 23.5. The course will be held at the Pride Parade office (Dunajska 10)\, Channel Zero (Masarykova 24)\, and on the streets of Ljubljana.\n\nAPPLY HERE\n\nThe course will be lead by Maša Gojić\, a professional photographer and associate of the Pride Parade Association.\n\nFree * – in exchange for free participation in the photo course\, each participant agrees to take part in the photo team of the Pride Parade Festival 2019.\n\nApplications are open until 3.5.2019 or until all places are filled.
